It’s a known fact that during childhood parents get more concerned about their kids. As they are still growing towards adulthood, parents become protective and they take care of the things they need for their development. As human being shows affection and develop strong bond with their offsprings, it’s natural to share the emotional pull towards your children.

According to currently published research, it has been confirmed, that parents cannot stop worrying about their kids even though they have grown up to be adults. A study published by The Gerontologist Journal depicts that older parents tend to show concern about their adult children and the feeling stays the same as it were in their adolescence period. This may sound a bit surprising, regarding when children grow up to be adults, they become capable of doing things by themselves.

They do not need the constant administration of their parents as they emerge into a more stable position than the adolescent years. Furthermore, as a kid child needs schooling, they need someone to take care of them, as there are susceptible to harm and different kinds of risk. At this stage, parents have to look after them at every step. But when they grow up to have their own life, parents still worry about their kids and lose sleep in the process.

Worry and anxiety in parents

After children reach adulthood and want to venture into the outer world, for instance, they leave home for college or work, parents start to develop anxiety and worry about them. To subdue this situation, you can try calling your parents once in a while, so they can get a good night’s sleep and worry less about you.

According to the study of Amber J. Seidl, gerontologist, Ph.D., of Penn State York, he described the situation with CBS that family support is important even in the latter part of your life. She states that he feels that sharing at this stage is very important, and it has the same value. He also says that he is concerned about this family-centric society and its culture, that focuses on their young kids. She states that she wants to understand the topics that keep people family-centric even in their adulthood, and she can motivate family-level inspirations in varied situations.

There are a lot of variances and sleep routines mapped in this survey, especially the one with the families of west and east. It’s common for parents to stay with their kids till they are married. In the western parts of America and Europe, the culture of independence is predominant, as the kids learn the same from an early age. It’s common for boys and girls to acquire a job during their teenage and achieve financial independence at an early age. Naturally, parents sponsor the upbringing of their kids, and they would eventually want their kids to become financially stable in the future.

A study has been made

A research was conducted with 186 married heterosexual couples along with their adult children. The study was conducted with women of 57 and men of 58 years. All participants were asked later about the amount and kind of support they were providing for their grown-up kids and it was mapped on a scale of one to eight. Here one was the extensive support and eight to be the least, and it can be once a year.

After that participants were analyzed by rates and the results indicated that most parents had a strong feeling about their children, and for that, they worry and lose sleep. The findings suggest that the relationship with their kids, parents suffer from anxiety and their sleep schedule gets hampered. However, this situation is mostly for middle-aged men and women.

Adult kids living at parent’s house

If adult kids are living in their parents’ house, it can cost extra 1780 pounds yearly with the household expenses. While so many parents want to get their children home, that also adds some extra costs, and it can bring more pressure in their relationship as in the finances.

The results were described by author Seidel, she says that the research was conducted on younger adult people and it suggested that parents are still highly involved in their kid’s life. However, parents and adult kids have maintained a little development, and the study didn’t encounter the popular things such as helicopter parenting and landing pad. She also said that the surge of smartphones and social media increased the worries in parents, as they see things and people their kids are getting involved with. This is another reason for parents to be concerned about their children.

This survey was administered by Seidel as she requested adults and parents to sort out the type of support they are being offered along with the effort to receive a more transparent form of relationship with their kids. She raised queries such as if parents allow their children by rewarding them lazy and destructive behaviors. If they are controlling their kids differently, or they are providing unconditional support to their kids. It was perceived that parents are fully involved in their kid’s lives, and the way they perceive the support for their kids, alters the sleep schedule.

Several variations are present from the perception and upbringing that generations of child boomers share in this concern. Most kids have deep interest and self-perception about their job status. As the seniors have to spend most of their time at work, they get inspired by making sound and rational decisions. There has been a lot of research to understand the changes in every generation.

A common notion for older generations

Thus, it’s a common thing for children to leave their childhood home and parents to start a new life and career. However, they still have the sold family value, so statistics show that kids of older generation keep good relation with their parents. It is important to mention that it was also the time when contraception wasn’t that popular, which resulted in an increased birth rate. It also led to stronger ties and family values, especially in the victor countries from the big wars.

Millennials

In the case of millennials they have less spiritual foundation due to their delayed timeline:

  • Finishing school
  • Leaving house
  • Become independent financially
  • Getting married and raise kids

Several millennials choose to stay at home even after they finish school. Other than financial reasons, they are involved in the community and development of care support. This didn’t exist in the 50s or 60s.

Moreover, back then most baby boomers didn’t acquire college degrees, as it wasn’t a mandatory thing, but they centered on academic knowledge mostly. On the contrary, a lot of millennials are graduate with a bachelor’s degree. If compared to the baby boomers that grew up at the time of the industrial revolution, the period for millennial kids to establish their careers was much bigger.
